Introduction

Yo, what up. I'm Ally! 19 years young from Layton, Utah. I'm an Ambassador here at Dixie State. I moved to St. George just over a year ago. I'm a sophomore studying Human Communication. After this semester (Spring 2017), I will have my Associates Degree as well as 15 credits into my major, (booyah). The minute I came to DSU I fell in love with everything about it! Here's a few reasons why Dixie is my favorite: sunshine, small class sizes, a personal education, and a happy atmosphere. I mean really, what more could you ask for? My Hobbies: Hiking, chillin' with the homies, basketball, being at Disneyland, rapping, magic tricks & drinking diet coke!!!! Facebook Campaign - "Dixie State University Ambassadors"

Image
Mission Statement "Our ambassadors are a great tool for you to use in your college search. They each have real experiences inside and outside of the classroom to give you an idea of what your life as a DSU student can be. They are here to help answer any questions you might have regarding college. Ambassadors also participate in a variety of recruitment events including high school visits, student host weekends, as well as giving the campus tours." I am mainly trying to target high school seniors, seeing as they are the majority of students that we work with on campus. Though we will also target transfer students, as well as "return to learn" students. People of all ages are welcome to a tour. On this page you will find various tools to help you get in contact with us. What I would love to have happen is people use this site to "sign up" for a campus tour. Media Plan & Three Marketing Personas I chose to create a Facebook  page for the Ambas...

Social Media Campaign Data

Image
Collected Data Through my data, I have found that the best times to post are at 10AM or 9PM. On average, those two times had the most traffic from viewers. In the future, I would only post at 10AM or 9PM, that way I would reach the most people possible for this campaign.  Below are the posts I published throughout my campaign. I tried hard to promote DSU Previews for future students. I was happy to see that I reached 169 people! In the future I would try to tag as many ambassadors as I could in a post and get them to share the post to their timeline, that way the post would reach a lot of people with no cost. I think the "Dixie Preview February 2017 post was popular (highest engagement) because I posted pictures of the students at the Preview. I will continue to post pictures of the students that come to the Dixie Previews. That was a success.  I invited all of my friends on my personal Facebook to "like" this page. I got 44 likes from doing that. ...

Social Media Campaign Ad - "Become A Trailblazer!"

Image
"Scholarships" As one goes through this ad, I wanted to make sure the viewer saw the most important parts of Dixie. For the first image, I chose to talk about Scholarships offered at the University. I embedded a link that will show the viewer all of Dixie's available scholarships.  There are scholarships on this website that pertain to all 3 marketing personas I have listed on my campaign. (High school seniors, transfer students, as well as "return to learn" students).  https://financialaid.dixie.edu/scholarships/ "Degrees" A big part of going to college is discovering where your passions lie. For this ad's second image I chose to talk about different degrees and programs that are offered at Dixie State. It's easy to find if we have what you are looking for. All you have to do is click on the link I embedded in this section of the ad and it will direct you to all of our Majors, Minors and Programs. https://financiala...

Sustainable Networking Activity

Problem & Solution:  The problem my group and I discussed was the impact Drunk Driving has on America. Clearly, it plays an extremely negative role in our world. Our goal was to prevent drunk driving, and hopefully save lives in the process. The solution we presented is an app. The goal is to team up with Uber and eventually have the app be automatically incorporated into your iPhone or android when you go to purchase it. How app works: Push notifications will be sent to you if your phone picks up irregular movement when you are 10-15 feet from your car between the hours of 10pm-3am Fri-Sun. We decided the push notification should ask "Do you need an Uber?" and you will then have the option to say YES/NO. Whether you pick yes or no, it will ask one more question confirming if you are sure. I thought adding the "are you sure" feature would be beneficial and decrease miscommunication. If you select Yes, an Uber driver will be notified and be there to assist ...

Automatic Attitudinal Response

The top 5 things that influence what, why, and how I believe are: My family and how I was raised   My Religion (Mormon)    My friends My personal life experiences (good and bad)  My personality  Just because something appears one way doesn't always mean it's the right way. Whether you're right or wrong, I believe that it's important to gain perspective and try to look at something from another persons point of view. You might be asking yourself, "Well if I'm right then why does it matter to try and look at another persons point of view?"  Important to remember:  Just because you listen to someone else opinion does not mean you have to agree with their opinion. Here's a few reasons why I think it is vital to try and understand why other people think the way they do:   You might learn something new Maybe you're looking at it the wrong way A new perspective never hurts Now you better understand someone else and have increased ...

OTM 3 - "What We Know About the Border"

Image
After listening to On the Media's "What We Know About the Border" , there is no question that government agents at the border are diminishing innocent peoples constitutional rights. This broadcast covers in great detail different stories of people who got wrongly accused of being illegal immigrants. These individuals were greatly mistreated by our government agents. For the people being abused by this awful system it included: intense phone searches, computer searches, agents holding information and not answering any questions detainees had, getting held in ice box rooms, (extremely cold temperatures), getting deprived of basic needs (food and water), getting assaulted in various ways for being apart of the Muslim religion, getting handcuffed for no reason, being held in a cell for no reason, being detained for several hours (in some cases overnight), and sexual assault. Sadly, these are only a few things that were disc...

Well Informed 2.0 - "Racism"

Image
In the video Race Bating 101, Matthew Cooke does a great job describing different race stereotypes and discrimination that has been going on for hundreds of years. It's truly mind blowing how people treated other human beings (mainly the black population). I can't believe that people thought this type of behavior towards another person was acceptable. Cooke goes on to explain how Blacks faced many challenges. One main challenge being Jim Crow laws. These laws made life for blacks almost impossible. They were a very hurtful and discriminatory towards the black community. Cooke states, " This thing called Jim Crow just took over for slavery. Enforced by government, courts and law officers, forcing a continuation of an already well established racial caste system on every aspect of american life. Ministers said whites were the chosen people, blacks cursed to be servants, God supported racial segregation, craniologist's, phrenologists, and social Darwinist's at every e...

Well Informed 2.0 - "Education"

Image
Since day one, achieving an education has always been important to me. One main reason I believe it has been vital to me for so long is because of the influence my parents had on me while growing up. They both have masters degrees from great Universities and still today, continue to stress the value in gaining a higher education; in whatever that may be. Something I have learned while being in college is the value in critical thinking. A few questions that have come to mind while researching this topic are: "How can the education system improve?" "What is working, and what is not working within the system?" "What is the value in gaining a college degree?" "Is it worth it?" "How can I efficiently achieve a valuable personalized education?" Another question that really hit me hard while watching "Education vs The Courts" , was when Prince EA argues against education asking, "Do you prepare students for the future, or the...

Dream App - "Deal It Up"

What is Deal It Up? Being the college student that I am, I've had to learn how to budget money and spend less. But me being me, I like to spend money. Spending money is definitely not a hard thing to do. Saving on the other hand, can be a bit more challenging. I want to create an app that would benefit people who like to shop (virtually everyone). The app would include a lot of great features for the user. What this app would do is help the user find the very best deal on whatever they want, whenever they want it. The app would be called, "Deal It Up". Features & How it Works: Depending on if you want to purchase your product right away or if you are willing to let it ship to you, this app would find the best deal closest to your location, as well as the best deal available online. This feature would enable the user to see their various options while shopping. How location feature works: (100 mile radius) Deal it up would search your surrounding area within a 1...

OTM 2 - "Future Tense"

In this week's on the media, it goes on to describe how past and present President's of the United States have managed the press. A lot of them had a tough relationship with the media. In fact, many Presidents strongly disliked the media. I think it's because media has the capability to publicly state things about someone that can be partially true, but not all true, leaving great room for peoples perspective to be altered.  In this case, it would be the current President of the United States of America. Whether that be a positive or negative altercation, it's misleading and unfair to the people. It disables us to make our own opinion because we do not have all the facts. Jan 1955 was the first televised news conference with President Eisenhower. They were using this form of media in the same way Trump uses twitter now, a way to directly reach the public about issues and or topics in America. The NY post was surprised at how scripted the broadcast was. They made sure ...

Well Informed 2.0 - "Fake News"

Image
"Ex-Head Of Twitter News: Social Media Companies Alone Shouldn't Regulate 'Fake News'" At times, I feel our perspective is narrowed because of social media. I understand that we all need a voice, and I do believe it's extremely important. For Pete sake, it's in the First Amendment of the United States of America (Freedom of Speech)! Though in today's world, we face a difficult challenge. That difficult challenge being, bias and fake news in the media. I have found it difficult to take half of the posts I see on social media seriously. Especially throughout this past Presidential Election. I often see people posting things that either: Have no idea what they are talking about (idea offers no logic)  Think they know what they're taking about but their argument is twisted through false information (don't have all the facts)  Want attention from posting about politics (whether that be positive or negative attention)  That's reall...

OTM 1 - "The Game Has Changed"

The Game Has Changed talks a lot about journalism and how to be more effective through what they are producing. It goes on to compare Donald Trump to Vladimir Pooten because they run their press conferences similar to one another. Alexie Covelev noted in medium, that they are similar because Trump dominates everything and anything during these press conferences, she goes on to say, everyone else is a just prop to him. Trump calls out CNN because he is frustrated with the "fake" news that continues to get released about him. I liked how this was explained on this broadcast, I felt it explained the scenario quite well. He stated,  "Buzz-feed presumably published it in part because CNN was reporting on it CNN was reporting on it because intelligence officials had briefed trump on it, intelligence officials briefed trump on it because senior congressional leaders were passing it around senior congressional leaders may have been passing it around it part because senate min...

#inauguration

Image
What. A. Day. There are definitely a lot of varying opinions about Donald J. Trump becoming our 45th President of the United States of America. During this process I loved watching past presidents and leaders set aside the hate and come together. I feel this is important because in order to truly "Make America Great Again", we need to create an accepting atmosphere.  I felt Trump did a decent job in addressing this issue of how we need to come together as a nation to create positive change. Protests on protests! This particular protest took place the night before inauguration day. A statement that has become popular to those who are in fact protesting Trump is "Not my president", as well as, "We are the popular vote", (as you see on the snap-chat story from the "News" category) insisting that Trump be taken out of office because technically, he didn't win the popular vote, which does frustrate a lot of people. Many people, incl...
